A Map of the Known World, an ambitious new dance theater piece by Christy Walsh's company Windriven, is a multi-disciplinary narrative with story-telling and world building which combines ballet and flamenco, with a complex gestural language. The story begins when a Poet loses her friend, a Princess, to the teachings of an ambitious Priest and her religious messengers. This hero's journey follows the Poet as she comes in conflict with the religious group and the martial forces behind it. A Map of the Known World examines themes of imperialism, religion, spirituality, and the nature of time.

Christy Walsh started her performance career dancing, acting and singing with her grandmother’s musical theater company before going on to a dance career that she pursued while studying photography and fine art. For twenty-five years she has pursued a wide range of creative projects that use movement and imagery to explore narratives that draw from history, mythology and philosophy.
Walsh’s interdisciplinary works include evening length performances: The Lost Colony of the Argonauts (2024), Stories of the Sun God, (2010), Luminitza (2006) and four multidisciplinary collaborations with the conductor Angela Tsimperlou in Chios, Greece. Her choreography has been presented in a wide range of venues, from Steps On Broadway and Dixon Place, to the San Antonio Riverwalk in Texas, in addition to site-specific works in alleys and sculpture gardens. Her drawings and photographs are exhibited nationally and her award-winning films and videos have been screened at festivals all over the world.
The performance will include works by two special guests:
Guest Choreographer Taylor Gordon is an international dancer, creator, and educator based in NYC for 20+ years. As an emerging choreographer, she explores emotional works about the human condition, with an emphasis on collaboration, efficiency, and cultural impact.
Guest choreographer Erin Jennings created On the Brink in Kent, NY in July, 2026 in coordination with America’s 250th year of independence. This work reflects on themes of revolution, and freedom. What ideals founded our nation and what happens when we stop listening to and seeing each other? Sovereignty, Peace, Liberty, Independence, Peace, Justice and Love are represented by dancers: Marie Carstens, Danette Granger, Erin Jennings, Faith Kimberling, Michelle Shea and Melisa Scott.
Putnam County Dance Project was created in 2018 when dancers Marie Carstens and Erin Jennings joined forces after leaving NYC for the beauty of the Hudson Valley. Having both danced professionally in NYC and beyond, they co-created PCDP to bring quality dance performance and events to surrounding communities.
