Ballet Hispánico Community Arts Partnership Team (CAP) celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of Performances for Young People (PYP) and Latine Intensive Experiences (LIE) through October 15.

“For 55 years, Ballet Hispánico’s Community Arts Partnerships have brought the power of dance into schools and neighborhoods across New York City,” said Community Engagement Director Natalia Mesa. “What began as a bold idea has become a daily practice of transformation, where classrooms become stages and movement becomes a language for confidence, creativity, and connection.”

The Community Arts Partnerships (CAP) team brings the mission of Ballet Hispánico to the community as a leader of dance education and human connection. The department offers dance classes, workshops, performances, and engagements that celebrate and highlight the culture of Latino America and its diaspora, providing a series of programs that offer the authenticity and representation of Latine/Hispanic culture and expose students to the forward-thinking legacy of Ballet Hispánico's institution.

The curriculum embraces a culturally relevant methodology that encourages the research of Latine/Hispanic history while supporting a student-centered approach. The cohort of Teaching Artists immerses students in technical dance training while celebrating the different cultures and ethnicities that coexist within the Latino/Hispanic dance world.

Latine Immersive Experiences (LIE)

Students are treated to a guided journey through the Latin Diaspora through dance and culture. This interactive, fun-filled experience features music, cultural connection, movement style, and props!

Performances for Young People (PYP)

Performances feature interactive excerpts from Ballet Hispánico’s repertoire. Students experience world-class choreography accompanied by live narration, explore connections to cultural icons such as Celia Cruz and Tito Puente, and engage directly with our artists through Q&A and dance-along sessions.

Community Arts Partnerships Programs

CAP programs celebrate and offer an authentic representation of Hispanic heritage, culture, and traditions. They empower students to express their personal experiences through improvisation, movement creation and/or the practice of Latin dance forms, and they utilize Ballet Hispánico's Company repertoire as a resource providing access points for movement, artistic, and cultural context.
