Company:
Trinity Irish Dance Company
Performance Date:

Freeform Review:
Michelle Dorrance is a wonderful tap choreographer and dancer , but I didn’t realize she could also choreograph for this wonderful company of Irish dancers. The performance at the Joyce Theater on February 17th was amazing as The Trinity Irish Dance Company performed new as well as older pieces from their repertoire. Other choreographers for this piece included Chelsea Hoy, Francisco Lemos, and dancers from the company I marveled at the shoes, black boots, very different from tap shoes.
All the young dancers were so precise and could kick so high. The name of this premier was called.”SEsacht”. It’s defined as “dancing of the sixes and sevens rooted in rhythms once tribal and complex.”
The lighting by Al Crawford was also terrific changing colors on the background from red orange green.
“The SASH” Choreographed in 2025 also had a New York premier with a film by Paul Marshall. He talked (with subtitles) about how he was wounded in the fight between the Irish Catholics and the British protestants . The music was live with unusual Irish drumming. They welcomed the audience into their home for a week. I kept thinking about my late friend John Clare and his sisters, Molly, Terry, and Virginia.
In the last piece “SOLES” , the quote in the program states “when the soles of your shoes have worn off, you’re back on your feet again”by Michael Howard, father of the founding artistic director, Mark Howard.
It was Mardi Gras night and what a celebration of dance!
